Cleanser
It is recommended to wash your face 1-2 times a day. The number of times depends on what type of skin you have. For some people washing their face 2 times a day can be drying which in that case, washing it your face 1 time would be okay. Remember it takes time to learn about your skin and what it needs, so be patient in this process. The main job of a cleanser is to remove unwanted oils, dirt and bacteria that we come in contact with in our face during our everyday life. There are many options for cleansers, you want to make sure to use a gentle cleanser. If you feel you have sensitive skin try to use cleansers that are fragrance free and don't contain sulfates, these can be very stripping and harsh on the skin. For oily skin, you want to make sure to use products that will avoid clogged pores such as salicylic acid.
Eye Cream
After your face is clean you want to use an eye cream. If you remember from the last blog, we talked about avoiding dark circles. This step will help your eye lids and under eyes to maintain elasticity which is important in order to avoid wrinkles. This is key for having preventative measure to stay away from early aging in the eyes.
Spot Treat
Depending on your skin, you might find that there are specific spots that need a little extra help. For those that may have breakouts or acne in general, it might be a good idea to include a spot treatment. This is a treatment that can be prescribed by a doctor or simply purchased at regular drug stores that concentrate in a specific part of the face. These treatments can also be for fine lines and pore treatments. Normally, these treatments would be applied at night, because that is the time when the body is working hard to repair itself. It's important to remember this step before moisturizer to allow the spot treatment to really penetrate in the skin.
Sunscreen
This is such an important steps that gets skipped by a lot people. Your skin is sensitive to the sun. Even if you don't plan on being outside all day, you should always apply sun protection. Most moisturizers now contain some form of SPF but not every single one of them does. The sun can cause dark spots and different types of skin cancer. Not only does sunscreen protect agains skin cancer, but it also protects against wrinkling and early aging. Make sure to understand your skin, depending on your skin, you will have different types of SPFs coverage that you might need.

Moisturizer
Moisturizers are important to add hydration to your skin. Some people think that since they don't have dry skin, they don't need it, this is false. Everyone needs hydration for their skin. The great thing about moisturizer is that scientist have done plenty of work to have moisturizers for all skin types. There are different types of bases which will depend on your skin. For someone that has very dry skin, it might be good to use a moisturizer that contains essential oils to provide the hydration needed. For those with oily skin, they might benefit from using moisturizers that are oil free.

Your Turn
Skin care is not hard, it just takes a little bit of time to understand. As you take time to learn what type of skin you have, then it will be easier to know what products you need. The great thing is that you have me, I know what it's like to feel overwhelmed with all the products that are out on the market. Start simple, use those steps to define your routine and play around with those. I want you to love yourself enough to enhance your skin. This routine will not fix or hide all your skin imperfections but that's okay. Remember it takes time to be okay with your skin and learn to enhance it. I hope you can learn to use these steps in a way that empowers you and helps you overcome all the challenges that come your way. This is a good guideline to follow, there are no hard rules on what has to be or not be part of your skin care routine. Take this knowledge and share with someone that might need a little boost in feeling confident with their skin.
